If you have a foreclosure scheduled in the next seven days, the Massachusetts Division of Banks may be able to ask for a 60-day extension to work something out with your bank. Email their office at dobconsumer.assistance@mass.gov or call (617) 956-1501.
The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office has helpful information about how to work with your mortgage company to avoid a foreclosure.
If you are behind on your mortgage, you may qualify for a maximum of $7,000 per year in assistance from the state’s RAFT Program. You can apply:
- Online or
- Acton, Concord, Lincoln, Maynard, Natick, Sudbury, Wayland, Weston: through SMOC, the South Middlesex Opportunity Council.
- Bedford and Lexington: through Metro Housing Boston
The Homeownership Preservation Foundation has counselors available 24/7 in more than 200 languages at 888.995.HOPE. They can explain various options to pursue with your lender instead of foreclosure and support you throughout the process.
