Energy Improvements

Mass Save is a statewide program to help people of all income levels to save money through energy efficiency. They have some programs for renters and others for landlords. Renters can get rebates for purchasing energy-efficient appliances and power strips and for enrolling their smart thermostat in the Connected Solutions Program that allows the electric company to adjust your settings during summertime peak energy events. The MassSave website also has free weatherization supplies for windows, doors, and pipes. You can encourage your landlord to get a free energy assessment that would open up no-cost insulation and other incentives for improving the efficiency of their entire rental property.

The state network of community action agencies offer help with heating bills, energy audits, energy upgrades like insulation and light bulbs, heating system repair, and replacement of old and inefficient appliances. Households must be earning no more than 60% of the state median income. You can apply online for the Home Energy Assistance Program and that is the same application for the new federal Water/Sewer Assistance Program, the Heating System Repair/Replacement Program, and the Weatherization Program. You also can apply through your local community action agency:
